Vancouverness

A week has gone by since I made the trek to the coast. The drive out was amazing, a blue sky day that magnified the magnificence of the Rocky Mountains. The snowpack was said to be 150% of the average year. Driving the yellowhead it was obvious, it was the middle of May and the mountains were still heavily blanketed with the year's snowfall. A few ski hill's were still open to spring skiing which was uncharacteristic especially for the past decade that had seen deminishing snowfall's. When I arrived in Chilliwack to visit Matt and Mo there was talk of a 50 year flood. The whole Fraser valley was preparing to be washed out to the Pacific. I biked with Matt and Mo, testing out my new mountain bike. It was great to get out on the trail and I didn't feel too out of shape after the 3 hour cross country ride.

I made my way to Vancouver to bunk up with Andy and Brenda-Lyn in East Van. Bren has a cute bungalow which is fashoined decernignly with vintage finds from thrift stores around the Lower mainland. It is comfortable and feels like a home, they help me settle and before I knew it I was there a week. I don't want to over stay my welcome but am enjoying the time with emmensly.

I spent the weekend with my cousin Pam in Whistler. I met her friends and her new boyfriend Ryan, who seems to be a really solid guy. I ran around Alta lake with Haida and spent the weekend reading, playing chess and walking. On monday Pam, Ryan, and left the cabin at 11 where it was 15 degrees and went skiing up at Blackcomb. There was a suprising amount of terrain open and for my first and last day of the year it was amazing. We skied leisurely and stopped in for a burger and beers in the sun. Monday night was spent with the skeans family in West Van, we had a great meal and even better conversation.

I made my way back to Andy and Bren's and plan to spend another week. Andy and I fell into a gig building a deck for Cam's friend. So that will take up the majority of the week. After that the plan is to hit Vancouver Island for some surf and camping.

Stay tuned...........
